2017 Scholarship Recipients

Gibson_Bethany_PortraitThe AIA Michigan President’s Scholarship of $4,500 is awarded to Bethany Gibson, an entering graduate student at the University of Detroit/Mercy. Her outstanding leadership qualities and scholarship, as well as her commitment to AIAS made her an excellent choice for this award.

ashish_bhandariThe American Institute of Architect’s Scholarship of $1,500 is awarded to Ashish Bhandari, a first year graduate student at the University of Michigan. His excellent portfolio and deep commitment to community impact led to this award.

kyle dimaggioThe Kenneth Neumann Design Scholarship of $1,500 is awarded to Kyle DiMaggio, a rising graduate student at the Lawrence Technological University. This award includes a summer internship at the firm of Neumann Smith Associates in Southfield. His creative portfolio and evident promise in graphic and design skills made this award appropriate.

leo 1The John Banicki Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 is awarded to Leonardo Orozco, a rising graduate student at the University of Detroit/Mercy. He was also awarded the Professional Concepts Insurance Agency Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. His well-rounded portfolio, involvement in community activities, and promise as a future architect led him to be honored with both awards.

claire_antThe HED Alvin Ernest Harley AIAS Graduate Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to Claire Antrassian, a rising graduate student at University of Detroit Mercy. Her very active participation in the AIAS chapter, as well as AIA Michigan, and commitment to the profession stood out among applicants.

 

BriannaCampbellThe Daniel W. Toshach & AIA Saginaw Valley Chapter Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 is awarded to Brianna Campbell, a first year graduate student as Lawrence Technological University. Her terrific academic record coupled with a well-rounded portfolio made her award appropriate. She is a native of Clio, Michigan in the Saginaw Valley area.

 

Jacob Klee_PhotoThe inaugural Leslie D. Tincknell Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 is awarded to Jacob Klee, a rising graduate student at the University of Detroit Mercy. His outstanding academic record and evident financial need made him the best choice for this award.

 

ellis wills begleyThe new (MAF first administered this award in 2016) Richard M. and Sidney K. Robinson Scholarship in the amount of $3,500 is awarded to Ellis Wills Begley, who will be a senior at the University of Michigan next year. This award is co-sponsored by the Huron Valley Chapter of the AIA. With a compelling desire to fulfill a role as a citizen architect and to serve the architectural needs of the disabled, and with an exceptional portfolio of work at an early stage of architectural education, Ellis was a clear and unanimous choice to receive the Robinson award.
