The AIA Michigan President’s Scholarship of $4,000 is awarded to Andrew McCarthy, a final year graduate student at the University of Michigan. His outstanding portfolio, and creative statements and presentation, combined with a significant financial need made him a clear choice. He is from Grand Rapids and lives in Ann Arbor and is involved with significant charitable activities. Based on a precedent established last year, Andrew was also awarded the Kenneth Neumann Design Scholarship of $1,000 that includes an internship at Neumann Smith Associates. His outstanding design promise and his commitment to architecture made him stand out as a terrific choice for both awards.

The American Institute of Architect’s Scholarship of $1,500 is awarded to Brian Wisniewski, a final year graduate student at the University of Detroit/Mercy. His high level of leadership involvement, good academic record, and engaging portfolio set him apart. He was raised in Garden City and was highly praised by UDM faculty.
The Professional Concepts Insurance Agency Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to Heidi Swift, a 1styear graduate student at the University of Michigan. She demonstrated not only a deep commitment to community involvement, but also exceptional character through work with non-profits. She is from Ann Arbor, and has found time to be an active member of the Michigan Marching Band.
The first annual HED Alvin Ernest Harley AIAS Graduate Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to Kaitlynn Young, a graduate student at the University of Detroit/Mercy. Her leadership and commitment to AIAS made her an ideal candidate for this award. In addition to her outstanding academic record, the Lake Orion native is deeply involved in the architecture profession as a student and emerging professional.
The first annual John Banicki Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to StevenMcMahon, a first year graduate student at Lawrence Technological University. He has maintained an exemplary academic record while establishing a strong professional work record. He is from Allen Park and exhibited a strong commitment to his career in architecture.
